The Village of Sebewaing has completed a five year Recreation Plan which will be used to apply for different grants for the Village’s Parks. A survey was taken as part of the Recreation Plan to determine what people want to see improved in the Parks. The largest request was improving the Main Park Restrooms.
The Village applied for and has been awarded the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant to demolish the existing restroom and construct a new universally accessible restroom in the Main Park at a projected cost of $220,000. The grant is a 50/50 match; therefore, the Grant will be matching funds up to $100,000 leaving the Village’s portion at $120,000. Since the Village of Sebewaing was successful in receiving the grant, the matching money will need to be included in the Village’s Park Budget for construction to begin in 2017.
In the year 2000, the Village’s Park Budget was $135,000. For 2016, the normal operating Park Budget was $35,860. The Park Budget has been reduced over the years due to shrinking revenues. The funds are not available in the Park Budget to meet the required match.
In order to complete this project at the Main Park, the Village needs assistance from the community to help with the matching funds. We are asking for your tax deductible donation to help in supporting this endeavor. Please consider becoming a sponsor at one of the following levels:
Platinum Sponsor $5,000
Gold Sponsor $2,500
Silver Sponsor $1,000
Bronze Sponsor $ 500
All money donated will be ear marked and placed in a separate account which will only be used for Park Improvements. A Donor Board will be placed on site when the project is completed recognizing those donating $500 or more towards this project.
Please consider supporting your local community and improving the Parks by pledging to this project.
Donations can be mailed to the Village Office at the address below or dropped in the drop box on the front of the building.
